This workshop teaches you to create accessible design systems and components from the ground up. Hosted by Marcelo Paiva, the creator of the WCAG plugin for Figma and Sarah Massengale, a blind technologist, will give participants firsthand insights into the challenges and solutions for designing experiences with accessibility in mind.
Over the course of two days, we’ll cover the fundamentals and advanced techniques of accessible design, ensuring that product owners, user researchers, and product designers can plan, architect and design high-quality systems that are usable by everyone.

About the Hosts:
Sarah Massengale serves as accessibility specialist at McGraw Hill, where she assists in preparing accessible documents, facilitates accessibility training, and ensures that websites and other digital content are accessible and inclusive. Born totally blind, Sarah has over twenty years of lived experience with disability perspectives and access technology such as screen readers. An IAAP certified CPACC, she loves training and engaging with organizations about digital accessibility.
Sarah's deep interest in disability rights and creating equality in the digital sphere has made her a passionate advocate for accessibility, and her firsthand experience provides invaluable insights into the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.
Marcelo Paiva is an accomplished professional in the field of User Experience (UX) and Accessibility, currently serving as the Accessibility Lead at the Rhonda Weiss Center for Accessible IDEA Data. He specializes in developing accessible design systems and experiences, and advocates for integrating accessibility considerations early in the design process. His innovative projects include a web tool for creating fully accessible prototypes and the WCAG plugin for Figma, demonstrating his commitment to accessible design.
